Japan’s Imperial Family State Car
While most royals around the world travel in Rolls Royce, Mercedes Bentley and Porsche, the Japanese imperial family travels in a custom-made limousine from Toyota.
Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko decided to replace their 30 year old “Nissan Prince Royal,” (below picture) with a new ride: a customized Toyota eight-seater limousine with a 5.0 V12 engine, that costs a mere 52.5 million yen (455.000 USD).
Inside, the Century Royal features granite stone in the steps, wool fabric for its seats and Japanese hand-crafted paper for the lighting systems on the ceiling.Keeping with the culture of producing energy-efficient cars, the limousine has been equipped with the latest energy-efficient engines and other eco-friendly mechanisms. This 20-foot-long and 6-foot-wide vehicle has a sitting capacity of 20 people. It is equipped with a one-off 5.0 liter V12 engine that produces more than 350 HP of power. Also, bulletproofing and special tires adorn the emergency features of the car that can be driven even after the tires have been shot with bullets. There’re four of them now in used at the Imperial Household.
The Century Royal, Toyota’s most luxurious model, is produced in limited numbers mainly for corporate executives and government leaders, and there are no plans to sell the special imperial version to the public.
